Nothing has yet occurred on this day that fits the On This Deity remit. But that might change soon. For revolution is all around us… it’s going off all over the world, and here in England the authorities are clearly very, very worried. £1.75 million of our money was the bill for undercover infiltrator and sexual violator un-PC Mark Kennedy. That the government deemed it necessary to foot the bill for not one but several covert cops – under the auspices of a bespoke special intelligence unit – is powerful evidence of the strength, effectiveness and resonance of the eco movement.

The Kennedy debacle puts me in mind of something Guy Debord wrote: “The highest ambition of the integrated spectacle is still to turn secret agents into revolutionaries, and revolutionaries into secret agents.” Did Kennedy genuinely ‘go native’ as the media would have us believe? Of course he didn’t. That was nothing more than a media fantasy as he was never going to take the stand for the defense, and his subsequent splattering across the tabloids by Max Clifford made it clear he was only ever out to help himself. And after years of betraying people for money, Kennedy can’t stop himself: in his exclusive interview with the Daily Mail, he not only sold out the activists, but he also betrayed his wife and children and even his police bosses – leaving no back unstabbed. Kennedy spent years disrupting anti-capitalist, anti-fascist and environmental campaigns. This means he is a fascist, capitalist and anti-environmentalist activist. And not even out of conviction but just for money, which ranks him below the knuckle-draggers of the EDL as truly the lowest form of scum alive. But despicable as Kennedy is, he is but a minnow and a lackey for a much greater enemy.

The demarcation lines have never been clearer. To be apathetic is to be on the same side as PC Mark Kennedy. “It’s a barbed-wire fence, which side do you choose?”
